Kathmandu : Senior sports journalist Bishnu Thapa has been honored. Shubhakamanā School, located at Gokarneshwar Municipality–4, Uttarbahini, honored Thapa on the occasion of its Junior Taekwondo Grading and Belt Promotion Program. He was recognized in high appreciation of his significant contribution to the development and expansion of the sports sector through journalism.
Thapa was honored by Shubhakamanā School Chairman Prakash Adhikari, School Principal Sumitra Dhimal, and Sanjay Lama, Chairperson of the Youth and Sports Development Committee of Gokarneshwar Municipality.
Thapa has been actively involved in sports journalism for more than two decades. He has been serving as a senior correspondent at Annapurna Post for the past decade. His book “Athletes: From Struggle to Success” was published recently. The book documents the struggles, achievements, and journeys of nearly five dozen athletes who have experienced various ups and downs in Nepali sports and have earned recognition at national and international levels. It includes stories ranging from Jit Bahadur KC, a living witness to the historic journey of Nepal’s first-ever international medal, to Palesa Govardhan, who secured Nepal’s historic bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
At the same program, newly elected General Secretary of the Nepal Taekwondo Association Hemant Dangi, National Sports Council Board Member and Central Member of the Nepal Taekwondo Association Kumar Lama Ghising, Central Member and international referee Bablu Siwakoti, and Central Member Prem Bhandari were also honored.
Delivering the welcome address, School Chairman Prakash Adhikari stated that the school’s objective is not limited to academic education alone but also to make students physically and mentally strong. General Secretary of the Nepal Taekwondo Association Hemant Dangi said that taekwondo has recently been gaining recognition not only at the national level but also internationally, adding that taekwondo teaches self-discipline along with self-defense.
Trainer Nhyawangkesang Lama informed that nearly five dozen athletes participated in the grading program. The grading was conducted by international referee and Secretary of the Dolakha District Taekwondo Association, Norbu Moktan.
